Anne Ruane Keaney is the founder and Managing Director of Columbus English Language College.  Anne is also the founder and owner of Columbus Club, Columbus Reading Academy and Gaelcholáiste Cholumba which all specialise exclusively in working with teenage and junior students in Ireland.

Anne was inspired to establish Columbus English Language College after a distinguished career in education, during which she achieved the notable distinction of being appointed the youngest Principal of a second-level school in Ireland – Mercy College, Glenamaddy, Co. Galway. Anne’s leadership skills were further recognised when she was subsequently appointed Principal of Athenry Vocational School, Co. Galway with a teaching staff of sixty teachers and over eight hundred students, (ranging in age from 12 – 18), the largest of its kind in rural Ireland at that time.

It was during her time at Athenry Vocational College that Anne broadened the scope and reach of the school by extending the range of subjects offered to the student body and also introduced new adult education programmes. Her experience in extending the range of subject choice led her to subsequently develop English language programmes and an extensive range of afternoon activities and camps for teenage and junior learners during the Summer periods.

Anne brings these leadership skills, her commitment to educational excellence and innovative approaches to pedagogy to form the basis of her work with Columbus English Language College. CELC adopts formal and non-formal methodologies to promote successful learning outcomes for their students. Creativity, sports and fitness programmes, as well as formal classroom activities all add to the totality of offerings provided, a fact that has been recognised by the many students who have availed of its services, as well as in the Irish national media, most notably in the “Irish Times” and “Image” magazine.

Courses in learning and developing English Language skills including comprehension, speaking, listening, vocabulary, reading, writing and correct use of grammar and syntax are provided in a modern and engaging manner with excellent student success at Columbus English Language College.

Language students attending CELC are integrated with Irish students of similar age and interests and engaged in learning through participation in a wide range of afternoon workshops and classes. These include Creative Writing, Photography & Film, Animation, Art, Drama and Singing, as well as opportunities for active leisure pursuits involving a wide range of sports and fitness activities. These are just some of the many examples of learning provided by Columbus English Language College.

All teachers working at the Columbus English Language College are chosen for their qualifications (many at Masters Level) and experience in teaching English as a foreign language as well as for their ability to engage students in an interactive style of teaching English.

Management and staff at CELC are committed to best practice in adherence to safeguarding children and minors as set out in the Protection and Welfare of Children, Department of Children and Youth Affairs, Dublin, July 2011.
